Notes from CALL SAL
How to get more Google reviews without asking every customer by hand
Owners type how to get more Google reviews because the profile looks older than the work. The last write-up is from last summer. The new jobs were good. Nobody asked. Or they asked in the driveway, the customer said “for sure,” and then life happened.
I am Salman Chowdhury. I run CALL SAL for shops in Toronto, Mississauga, Milton, Oakville, Burlington, and Hamilton. I am not going to teach you a trick that filters unhappy people out. Google already published the rules. The job is to ask every customer, with the official link, after the job, without you having to remember it in the van.
If you also need the phone to stop dropping people before there is a job to review, read missed calls for Toronto service shops first.
What Google tells you to do, in their own words
Google’s own help article is titled “Tips to get more reviews.” The official version is not mysterious. Ask your customers. Make it easy. Use a review link or a QR code. Do not buy reviews. Do not offer a reward for a star rating. Do not gate the request so only happy people see Google.
Google also publishes a separate article on creating a Google link or QR code to request reviews. That link is the thing you should send. Not a private form that decides whether they are allowed to write publicly. A direct path to the profile.
Stay inside those rules and you can automate the ask. Cross them and you are not doing local marketing. You are risking the profile. I will not write a workaround. If a tool promises to hide bad ratings, do not hire me to install it.
The operational failure is ordinary. Staff forgets to ask. The owner is already in the next driveway. The customer meant to write later and did not. WiserReview’s 2026 automation guide names that failure in plain language. You do not need their product to recognise the week.
Why recent reviews matter more than a pile from three years ago
Shopify’s 28 May 2026 guide, “Google Reviews: How to Get More for Your Business,” cites BrightLocal’s 2026 Local Consumer Review Survey. I am citing Shopify citing BrightLocal, not a CALL SAL study.
Forty-one percent of consumers say they always read reviews when looking for a local business, up from 29 percent the year before. Thirty-one percent say they use only businesses rated 4.5 stars or higher, up from 17 percent in 2025. Seventy-four percent only care about reviews written in the last three months.
That last number is the one that should change how you behave. A pile of kind words from 2023 will not carry a Milton shop through 2026 if the recent row is empty. People want proof the place is still good now.
Recent reviews also teach you what to put on camera. If three people mention the way you leave the site, that belongs in the brand film. The film is a different door. The review is the proof next to the door. See the brand film opens the door, the AI system runs the shop.
You cannot write the reviews. You can ask, every time, while the job is still warm. Waiting until you “get around to it” is how the three-month window closes.
How an agent can send your official review link after the job
The trigger is job done. Not job quoted. Not job half finished. Done. Then one text with the official Google link. Then one reminder if they said they would write and did not. Then stop.
That is a follow-up task, not a new personality. It should sound like the shop. It should thank them for the work. It should not beg. It should not offer a gift for five stars.
An agent can send that text so you are not the one unlocking the phone in a Burlington parking lot. The same teammate shape that sends the first reply to a new lead can send the last reply after a finished job. I described the front of that pipeline here: AI follow-up that books more jobs without more ads.
I run those teammates. I do not sell you a course on prompt writing. If you hire, the close is $500 one-time. I will not invent a public checklist of every review-link setting, because Google’s own help already covers the link, and your shop’s job-done trigger is personal. The 30-minute Google Meet is where we look at how you know a job is actually done.
The film is free if you take that Meet with me about AI that can save thousands and grow leads. You still get the film if you want nothing else. Shot on a RED KOMODO-X. Book at callsal.app or promo.callsal.app. Phone 905-749-0266.
Ask everyone. Use the official link. Do it after the job. Let a teammate carry the ask so the profile does not go quiet for three months.
